97 cav door hinge replacement
How does one replace the door hinge pins on a 97 cavalier? I have no interest in paying over $100 for new hinge assemblies & the parts store sold me new hinges like they are meant to be replaced. Please someone help me solve this riddle!
Not specifically sure about the Cavalier, but I have replaced the pins on some older GM products. You can go to your local A/P store, and get a set of bushings, and pin probably for around 20 bucks. The last one I did,I supported the door outer edge, and punched the upper pin up and out.Replaced the bushings, and put the pin back in.Lower followed.
It was really a breeze to do,and it straightened up the door perfectly.
The bushings are made out of a very soft material, and wear easily.

I know that works on older GM's, but the cavalier has hinge pins that are flanged on both ends, like they need to be cut off before they will be removable. I have been considering getting a power tool with a small blade that will fit in there, but if there is a special tool that can do it, i would love to know about it.
