Default 99 Cavalier PCM replacement

Hey All,

I am looking into replacing my PCM/ECU after having an issue with my radiator fan not spinning up, and tracing all of the electrical back to the PCM. Before I just went and replaced this relatively expensive part I wanted to ask something. Is it a good idea or even possible to just pull another PCM from another cavalier out of a junkyard as long as it has the same engine and transmission, and is there anything I should watch out for if I do end up replacing this thing.

Thanks!

You should be ok, I'd suggest checking ebay. Look for one used that the person can burn the eprom with your vin

for most vehicles its required for theft deterrent. older cavs use the ipc for theft deterrent...so you may be able to just install a used pcm without programming.
maybe check out jbody.org a cav forum.
