Default cant turn key/super loose steering wheel 99 cav

hey guys im posting for my uncle since he's computer retarded i myself am a honda guy. So hes got 99 cavalier and when you put the key it wont turn at all you cant even click into number 2 and he said the week before the steering wheel was all over the place moving left, righ,t up and down and now is verry loose. any advice would be hugely appreciated

sounds like you have a tilt wheel on your car, if so the tilt mechanism is loose at the base and it has to be tightened up. On my other GM cars when this happened you have to disassemble the steering column to get to the tilt mechanism. Take to a mechanic as this is a rather complicated procedure. It take about an hour and a half to do it.

I made my daughter a spare key for her car and it did the same thing. The key was made incorrectly. took it back and them remake it, it worked. does your Uncle have two keys for the car? try both of them if he does. As for as the column the previous may be correct...but first look under the dash for the two column bolts, they may just need tightened...or maybe not..worth a look before you pay major bucks at a garage.
