Default Engine swap

Hi all. I have a 96 Cavalier, 2.2L automatic. Engine blew up. Cant find an engine where I live. What year engines will fit? Will an engine connected to a manual gear fit? Will a 95 Corsica engine fit? (There is one for purchase). If so, what modifictions will be needed?

Thanks

Depending on what is wrong with your engine, you might be able to get it rebuilt. Or you can buy a used engine or a rebuilt engine and have it shipped to you. It is easy to have anything shipped.

It is not unusual for a replacement engine that is not an exact match to end up costing more than having the original engine rebuilt or exchanged for an exact engine from a quality rebuilder.
Some addl info would be helpful to know in making a good decision. What does blown up mean?

Thanx Hanky. A hole in the engine casing at the bottom, near the dipstick tube. Everyone told me its unrepairable because its die-cast metal.

Shouldn't be too hard to find a proper Cav engine at a JY. Transplanting a non OEM engine means opening a can of worms you'll wish you hadn't. That's a nice-looking car, put stock engine in it.
