Default Transmission issue

Hey guys,

I have a 1994 Chevy cavalier wagon with an automatic transmission. She has been a great car but a few days ago on the way home I got off the highway and stopped at the red light. The car started gluging, like a manual would if the clutch wasnt all the way in ,and then died. I tried to restart the car but it wouldn't start so I gave it a minute she restarted but when I went back into drive it started to do it again, before it died I bumped it into neutral and she returned to a normal idle. I gave it a minute before going back into drive. As soon as I went into drive she died again. After 20 minutes I tried again and was able to get going and made it home. When I got home I noticed that it was leaking fluid so I checked all my fluids and was a 3/4 of a quart low on tranny fluid. I refilled the tranny fluid and thought that must have been it. I didn't have any issues for three days but tonight it happened again. I got out and thought I must be low on fluid but it was still at the appropriate level. I waited 20 minutes and was able to get it going again and make it back to the house. I don't want to drive it anymore as I'm afraid I will get stuck. I am not sure what it could be and was hoping you guys have heard of this before or could give me a place to start.

Thank you in advance,
Chris

sounds like your torque converter is locked up when its not suppose to be.if its locked in it will start acting the way you describe, also your engine will be hard to start with the torque converter locked in when its not suppose to be.have you ever serviced your tranny, how many miles.sometimes dirt in the transmission will create all kinds of problems.it could also be the torque converter solenoid going bad in the transmission, could be an electrical issue with the torque converter circuit.your best bet would to bring it to and transmission mechanic and have them look at it.
