Late to this discussion, but back in the 70's to early 80's my mom drove a Malibu classic, and my girlfriend's dad drove an El Camino. I had my mom's car parked next to the GF's dad's El Camino more than once. The interior, dash, front end, and doors were all the same. Just the rear seat and trunk got turned into a pickup bed. At this point, I don't recall if the El Camino had any Malibu badging on it inside - it certainly didn't outside.
