Default Stock exhaust - is it worth it?

I recently purchased a numbers matching 1970 El Camino SS396 with auto trans. Previous owner did some mods to the cooling system as well as installed headers. They don't fit well at all (one hangs down three or four inches lower than the other for starters) steering shaft touches and rubs on one of the tubes, brake proportioning valve actually touches one tube because of clearance issues, starter cable looks like someone wrapped some tin foil around it to protect if from the header tubes, etc etc. etc.

So, I am considering converting it back to stock with the cast iron factory exhaust manifolds.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for reading.

Might be cheaper to just buy a correct set of hedders, Go with a major name brand and fit shouldn't be a problem.
