Default 1986 GMC C3500 4x4 conversion

I have a 1986 gmc c3500 crew cab that i absolutely love, but i would like it much more if it was 4 wheel drive, I've seen and heard of these 4x4 conversions being done, what parts would I need to get ahold of for the front end? are there adapter brackets? Do you recommend a stock dana 60? Or a built dana 44.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Personally, I would just sell your rig and get a K- model. I had a nice 1997 C-1500 myself, but after a time I wanted to go back to a 4X4 so I bought a good used 1998 K-1500, My old C-1500 was an automatic, but I am really glad I have the 5-speed stick now. Shifts smooth as silk, and the only "major" things I''ve done was rrepalce the water pump and the front axle acuatator.

Really glad I dont have the electronic actuator for the transfer case. I am used to owning a CJ-5 Jeep and didnt want that at all. Hell, I wish I had a solid front axle with Warn manual locking hubs like my old CJ-5 did. I do have to admit that I like having airconditioning, which the old CJ-5's didnt have.
