1997 brake lights not working

1997 brake lights not working
Put a new brake light switch in and when you push on the brakes they work. you push all the way they go off? All the other lights work this is for a chevy 2500

1997 chevy 2500 brake lights not working
1997 chevy 2500 brake lights went out put a new brake light switch in. The brake lights come on when you push on the brakes, when you push all the way down they go off? All other light a working. If there is a short the brake lights would not come on at all?

Is there no brake pedal? You state when you push the brakes the lights come on, then go off with the pedal pushed all the way down, that is what I don't understand.
