Cobalt popping sound...

Hey everyone! I just thought I would post my question here since you guys seem much more friendly and helpful than my dealership...

This morning when I was backing out of my parking spot, I heard a loud popping sound. It was loud enough for me to take notice so I was a little concerned. Since the popping noise occurred, I have driven my car twice (approx. 10 miles total) with no problems...no noises, no gauge fluctuation, nothing.

Is there any reason I should be concerned? I am generally very protective of my car...I make sure to keep up with the maintenance in order to prevent larger and more costly repairs in the future. I would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks very much for your time.

I see that you got in contact with your dealership and weren't entirely successful. Have you spoken with another dealership about the issue? I'm not sure but I wouldn't totally write off that pop if it hasn't been checked. I hope this helps and if you need assistance from our side feel free to contact me.

Hmm, I really can't think of anything...Did you take a peak under your car? everything looks ok? What about all your hoses and such? Maybe a brake shoe cracked? I had a brake shoe crack on me before (on an older car) and you couldn't feel the difference while driving.

Thanks for your feedback guys. I really appreciate you taking time out of your day to answer my questions. In reply, I have popped the hood on my car several times in order to check for any obvious problems. I did not see anything out of the ordinary to me. There are no leaks or blown fuses and all of my fluids are filled appropriately (except for the transmission fluid since I am unable to check that myself). The car has been running fine since I heard the popping sound but I have another issue that might be related to this one…

On two separate occasions I have been driving on the interstate (roughly 65 mph or so) and my gas gauge and rpm gauge start going crazy. They fall down to zero/empty and return to where they were previously about three or four separate times. Also, the emergency brake light comes on even though it has not been engaged. The car does not seem to be affected by this as I have been able to make it home after these incidents have occurred. It does scare me though because from my experience I know that a fluctuating rpm gauge can indicate transmission fluid problems. A few mechanics have told me that the problem is “cosmetic and electrical” and that as long as the car is running fine, I should not worry. This seems rather unsafe to me. What do you guys think? I am planning to take it to get it checked out, but “cosmetic electrical” problems are not covered under my warranty and I am afraid that this problem will have to come directly out of my pocket.

Hmm...contact your dealer and if they won't claim they can't cover it contact chevy's customer service and talk to them. They might say it can be covered and will call your dealership for you and make them cover it.
I just had a problem with my car and the dealership wasn't very helpful till I contacted customer service. They took care of everything for me and I didn't have to pay a dime!

I talked to a fellow by the name of rankin (sp) at the customer service department. He was super helpful and if your dealer doesn't want to work with you or is just not any help its worth it to call customer service.
