Default how to fix power steering?

hi I just recently bought bouth a 2005 chevy cobalt and was driving down the street and a massage on th dashbord lit up saying power steering and my wheel started to tighten up. so i went to auto parts and bought power steering fluid and opened the hood and i dont know where to put it because its different from my prev car.. i went to the shop they said i might have to change the whole steering rack... i was wondering how can i fix this for cheap.. because it only lights up once in a while. i turn my car off and on, and the problem goes away for couple hours.

to answer your question.... there is no where to put steering fluid because it is a fully sealed electric system, so you wont be able to add fluid luke older moble cars. check with chevy to see if its a recall if not then it will cost you

I would not go back to that shop. the rack is a compete dummy system, the brains and muscle are part of the column. Yes there is a recall on the mtr (which is on the bottem of the steering column under the dash) which is most likely your problem.

Our 06 Coblat was getting a little stiff and the recall fix restored fun to our ride again. Only took the shop and hour to do it. Good luck.
