So I have a 2016 Chevy Colorado and I have a very strange issue. I live in Texas where the weather rarely drops below Zero for very long. I took it up to Wyoming where the weather was 5 degrees above zero and the heater decided that it was going to die (at the worst time possible).

I tried some normal troubleshooting like making sure I had plenty of Antifreeze etc but it stubbornly refused to work (thank god the seat warmers were still working). The Air blows just fine so it's not the motor and the trucks temp is stable and normal so I don't think a thermostat is to blame either (at least based on what I understand). So I get back to Texas after freezing my *** off and the weather down here was around 40 degrees, cold but not freezing. Then it warmed up to around 50 degrees after a few days and BOOM heater started working again. I was more than a little annoyed at it's lack of working when I needed it most to say the least.


Any ideas on what might cause this? I have done a fair amount of googling around and can't seem to find anyone with a similar issue.

Also a bonus pic of my truck in the snow and getting suck on a hill because my FIL forgot to turn off traction control when climbing it and almost got it thrown off a cliff.

 

Its almost certainly an electronic al issue. Of what I don't know at this time, but I will try to find out..Sorry you had this happen to you.Could be a bad HVAC unit. I'd have a professional technician put a very expensive OBD II on it for sure.

 

That is my thinking too that something electronic is going on vs a physical defect. I didn't think about hooking an OBD II up to it. Do you know what info to look for on it if I hook one up?
