Default SBC Casting number Confusion!

Ok so I bought an engine from a guy for 160 bucks ever since then it's been sitting in a garage wait for some tlc recently there has been some controversy about what the block actually is. The Casting Number is 14010207 which should be out a passenger car/light duty truck/camaro. Well my buddy is trying to tell me it's out of a 'vette... I know they came with a 2/4 bolt main. But can someone verify the 'vette part? Fyi this is the only number I have at the moment since I do not have the engine here at my house. If it isn't, is anything compared to a 'vette engine? Is this a good base engine? Either way a 350 being in as good of shape as it looks it was a great price!

Thanks!
Braden

Welcome to the forum.

Wouldn't worry too much about the block as long as it isn't cracked. Be prepared to spend money getting it in shape for a rebuild tho. I've read where a 2-bolt block can be modified to a 4-bolt.

The heads can be another matter. Are they hi-comp, big valve heads? If so, then you can build a strong engine. As far as the casting number, you can check w/ a salvage yard and maybe on-line. There's a book but the name escapes me.
