Default Transmission

Hi all,
i have a 2011 Chevy Cruze with 93,000 miles and 6T40 transmission. I bought it CPO in 2015 with a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty. Last week my vehicle wouldn't shift into 3rd gear, so I took it to a shop thinking it would be a somewhat inexpensive repair. I was informed the transmission needs to be rebuilt and will end up costing me at least $2500 with a 2 year/24000 mile warranty. Is it necessary to pay $3000 to get the 3 year/100,000 warranty, quotes by a different shop, or am I okay with the lower priced warranty? I just don't want this happening again anytime in the future.
I am very frustrated that I will be paying thousands of dollars out of my own pocket for a major repair that GM should have recalled for Cruzes.
Is GM compensating the consumer in any way for this defective transmission?
Please let me know this issue is being addressed, along with any updates.

Thank you,
Renae

Check with GM; but a tranny rebuild would be a few thousand, yeah...
