Default The 402 vs 350 Vortec engine

I am rebuilding a 1972 402 engine to replace a troublesome 1998 vortec "R" truck engine. Electronics and ECM will be scrapped(no IM here), 4L80E is run by stand alone system allready.
Am I correct that these 2 engines are close in power curves and should be similiar in towing and hauling feel?
Thoughts anyone?
