Default A quick question of interchangeability

I have a chevy engine out of an 88' GMC 1500 (10054727 block from Canada). I am wondering if I have to replace it (everything is stock) with another 10054727 block, or can I use other casting numbers from other 5.7's? If I can use other casting numbers, do I have to stick to ones found in vehicles the same year or newer, or can I use a 3790010 block?

I apologize if this is posted in the wrong forum, This seemed to be the best one. I also searched, but with the combination of different casting numbers throughout the years, I couldn't really figure out a simple search term to specify my situation. Thank you for reading and I look forward to any feedback!

after 85 the blocks all fit mechanically, the diference is the heads and intake, heads less so, use your existing intake and make sure you are using another 5.7
