Leaky Transmission cooler line R & R
I just wanted to let you all know that I just had to replace the transmission fluid cooler line assembly (OEM part number 15781494) on our 2007 Equinox FWD at 123,700 miles. It was starting to leak at one of the crimps. If anyone else ever needs to do this you will need to drain and replenish about 4.25 quarts of fluid (I measured what I drained). GM still wants almost $19/qt for the genuine stuff, so I bought some Toyota T-IV fluid from my local Toyota dealership (again) for a more reasonable $5.74/qt. I put about 4.5 quarts back in to account for what had leaked out and that brought the level up to the top line of the cold range on the dipstick (pictured below). I checked the fluid with the engine running after starting up and cycling the shifter through all the gears (did not drive beforehand). This pic was taken when I did the complete fluid exchange a few years ago. I colored the raised edges with a permanent marker so you can see the marks.
I forgot just how hard it is to get to the dipstick. You're much better off removing it from under the car than under the hood. The color of the fluid was still fairly red but had a little darkness to it.
