Short answer: No.

Long answer: First, double check what engine you are asking about because the 3400 never came with flex fuel capability. Some of the 3500 and 3900 engines are flex fuel, but not the 3400. With some modifications and ECM tuning the 3500/3900 engine could probably be made to work, but they are certainly not a direct swap.

The 3400 in the 2005-2009 Chevrolet Equinox and Pontiac Torrent is different and built much better than the 3400 engines GM used in their other models (Impala, Grand Am, Malibu, Alero, etc). The main differences are intake manifold design, throttle-by-wire, belt routing & accessory locations, and engine management. Because of these differences, you must use a 3400 from an Equinox/Torrent. Furthermore, there are couple differences between the 2005-2006 and 2007-2009 Equinox/Torrent 3400 engines that make them incompatible with each other. (specifically, the crankshaft position reluctor wheel and throttlebody). In other words, if you have a 2005-2006 Equinox/Torrent, an engine from a 2007-2009 model will not work and vice versa. You must use an engine from an Equinox/Torrent of the same year range (2005-2006 OR 2007-2009) as yours for a direct swap.
