Default 2006 Equinox running hot at idle

I have replaced the thermostat to no change, it is needing coolant every month or two, but not leaking any. I put some radiator stop leak in the coolant and it slowed down usage some. I have only had the car for less than a year and am not sure about the age of the coolant, so I am about to do a flush on it and put new coolant in, the coolant now is a milky kinda goldish color. The fans come on but don't seem to be helping cool it down. I cut the heater on when it starts running hot, but it never helps much and the air coming out is only lukewarm, not hot.

Replace the coolant reservoir cap if you haven't done so already. Changing the coolant is a good idea if you are unsure of it's age. The radiator may be gunked up if the coolant has never been replaced.

You could also need a new water pump. If the engine has over 120K miles replacing the water pump is good preventative maintenance since they are fairly inexpensive and relatively easy to replace; especially if the coolant has never been changed.. Make sure you get the correct water pump which has a molded/cast impeller that looks just like the one shown below. Some auto parts stores sell a water pump design with a pressed/stamped steel impeller, but that design is not correct for the Equinox/Torrent 3.4L.

Thanks, I am about to get a new cap, tonight I was watching the engine run with the a.c. on and I could see what looked like an infrequent bubbling in the overflow reservoir, standing at the front looking at the motor, the left fan comes on and stays on, the right fan never came on and it got over the last white line about halfway to the max (red), I could put my hand in the hose going to the thermostat and it was getting hot, so I figure the thermostat was opening correctly.
