My Wife has a 2008 Chevy Equinox that has a problem with the Ignition switch not being able to turn the key to off. The problem got progressively worse and now have one heck of a time to turn off the ignition so the key can be removed. Tried pressing the brake pedal and shaking the steering wheel and playing with the floor shifter with no results. Does anyone have any ideas ? Looks like it's an ongoing problem. Something like this should never happen and makes me think about purchasing another auto from another manufacturer.

Problem is the ignition key can't be removed . The engine will shut off but the key won't turn to the lock position for key removel. Tried shaking the steering wheel and moving the Gear shift selector. Finally found something that works for now.If the ignition can't be locked turn ignition key to on, but not to start position, and then immediately back to off and lock. This solution worked every time for me. I have to do some more checking on this problem.

 

Took 2008 Equinox to delear for repairs. Dealer replaced ignition switch. Drive car home and still had the same problem. Couldn't turn off the ignition switch. Back to the dealer again. This time they replaced the floor shifter assembly. This did the trick. Working good now.
