Default Letter from Chevrolet

Even though I no longer own the Chevrolet Equinox, I received this letter recently regarding a satisfaction program put out by GM. I find it rather humorous because the damage has already been done to most of the vehicles mentioned here, and probably countless others.

This appears to me as the proverbial, "Close the barn doors after the horses are out" kind of thing.

Default 2010 oil consumption, awful engine noise, whacky transmission

One year ago I made a horrendous mistake. I purchased a 2010 Equinox LT. From the beginning it made an odd sound and I was told it was the injector flaps. After 6 weeks I took it in to the dealer because the engine was running so rough and told I was low 2 quarts of oil. In six weeks? I was told to consider I had been short changed at my oil change so I went with it. Two months later same problem. Hmmmmm So they replaced my timing chain, and we started the oil consumption test. Two months later I was down 2 quarts of oil again but not part of the oil consumption because io went somewhere other than dealerfor my oil to be changed. Two months later back at the dealer for yet another new timing chain. Sweet. In the mean time I continue to complain about the flapnoise as I have never heard another car do this, and continue to be dismissed as normal.
It also slams the transmission upon the up shift. Somehow the service tech cant get the car to replicate the issue. So it must be how I drive. Then I get the letter that says hey come in we need to change out the oil sensor monitorsoftware or some crap.. Uhhhh duh so we have established this honing load of crap I call a car drinks gas like a 1980 ...lynx with a bad head gasket. No joke I had one. So since normal people dont think they should have to add a quart of oil every 1000 miles lets make sure they know to get the oil changed more frequently.

I get my car back from the dealership on wednesday after the system upgrade and the oil change. Oh guess what, you will be shocked the oil level was low.( Duh the engine is burning the oil and GM knows this but is hoping we all are out of warranty before we figure out they are peeing on out legs and its not really raining). It now drives worse than ever. So back to the shop it goes, where I am told it is normal. No reving to 7000rpm before accelerating in my neighborhood accompanied by a high pitch whine is NOT NORMAL!!!! On Thursday I was giving a claim number and assigned a District specialist who I am still waiting to call me back. Awesomness. Today Monday 4/1 I was told by theservice department they are awaiting a call from the engineering department as they are not sure what is wrong.. Hmmm let me help GM cast a a 2.4 ecotech engine with incompatible metals, installed them in cars and have been bandaging them in hopes people buy the line of crap. The piston cylynders are most like showing signs of damage. The transmissions slip and the throttle body units are defective. This is all known and proven in the service bulittens which they release. There is a protecall for engine replacement and transmission replacement after you the consumer jump through 10 firey hoops. why? They know this was a screw up on thier behalf. Now I wait. The bright light in all of this is I have a loaner car from the dealership while we wait this out.
I simply want them to buy the car back.

I posted earlier that they finally replaced the engine in my 2010 Equinox. For a few weeks everything was fine. After reading ohpedsnurse's post, I also had the 'hard shift' problem every once in a while. It was always under a normal acceleration and very random. Now it has developed a vibration. It started after a 'hard stop'. Not a squealing tires, swerving stop just a hard stop. Heard this grinding noise at the time now I have this high pitched vibration kind of like driving on a grooved road. I though it was from the tires but I had them rotated front to back but still have the vibration and it's coming from the front.
This is one poorly built car. Even to the point where the steering wheel is falling apart! The plastic is disintegrating and it's not even 3 years old yet! Chevy will not replace it because it's got over 36K miles. What does mileage have to do with the steering wheel?
The dealers answer to the vibration? Bring it in and we'll look at it. I need my car. I can't leave it at the dealer for the day and unless it's going to be over night they don't provide a car for me to drive! Can't wait to get rid of this piece of junk.

Traded our Equinox in for a 2013 CR-V and we're loving it. I still get email updates when people respond to this posts and it really upsets me GM is still pulling the same garbage mind f--king everyone with this issue instead of standing up for it. Shame, shame. Hope none of you ever buy GM again after this. I know for sure I'm not.

I also have a 2010 Equinox and have been having the same problems with the stabilitak, service engine light, etc that I have read on here. Now I am having to spend 1100 to get my air conditioning compressor and a belt fixed. Of course my car is not in the recall group but having similar problems that the recall group was having. Called Chevrolet and they say they can't help because I don't have the car at a GM dealership. The problem is that the car won't make it to a dealership.

Mary,

I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your air conditioning compressor and belt. I see you have spoken to customer service. At this time I recommend you keep working with your current agent. I will make sure to keep an eye out for its progress. Thank you.

I too have had the same issues with my 2010 Equinox that others are talking about. I just had a new fuel pump replaced on it and dropped over a thousand dollars for that repair. I live two and a half hours from the dealership I purchased it from, by the way. Tonight, the car idled rough again after having the fuel pump replaced. I JUST picked it up today.

The hard shift and transmission issues are there and I've spoken to the service department about it, but nothing has been done to address that issue. I have had to have the timing chain tensioner replaced on it after driving it for a few months when I first got it. This vehicle was purchased by me brand new.

I now have to wait until monday before I can call the dealership and discuss the matter, and now I possibly will have to miss even MORE work in order to take the thing back to the dealer where all the servicing has been done.

I have a closer Chevy dealer, but the dealer I bought it from has the "Warranty Forever" program and I thought it would be a good idea to keep all the service done on it in one location, preferably the location from which it was purchased.

The powertrain warranty is getting close to expiring and I guess I'm really going to have to lean on the service department to do a thorough check on it. A three year old vehicle shouldn't be having this many issues, especially when I've had all suggested maintenance performed on it since I drove it off the lot.

Hello,

Have you spoken with any GM Customer Service representatives regarding your past vehicle issues? If not, could you please private message us your full name, address, and VIN and I will document the concerns you've had regarding your Equinox.

Finally had to call the Customer Care number. The latest major issue, the vibration that sounds like riding on a grooved road is actually a 'bad hub' in the right front. I assume that means the bearings that are pressed in the hub but I could be wrong. Guess what, it's NOT covered under the powertrain war! In the 2009 model year it was considered a part of the PT Warr but in 2010 it's not! So now they want $358.00 to fix it. That's just for the one. They'll want another $358.00 to fix the other one when it goes bad too. I usually drive my cars to around 150K miles before trading them and I don't remember ever having to replace a hub/hub bearing.
The transmission 'hard shift' is still there buts it's very random and I can't replicate it. I have started to notice that the 'down shift' when slowing for traffic is getting more noticeable though.
I will say the man on the phone at Customer Care was pretty nice. He lead me to believe that the district Service rep could possibly help me out considering the previous problems I've with this car. He did say I can't make any promises but...
The District service rep has not called back yet so I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Default Timing Chain and More

I had taken my 2010 Equinox in because the AC Compressor pulley was wobbling. They replaced the compressor and the condenser. This was followed a week later by the rattle that everyone speaks of. So my timing chain and tensioner were replaced, and while they were at it, I had to have an actuator replaced because my AC blew only on the floor and defrost. I got the car back on Saturday, and today the Brake fluid low came on. Since I was out, and the car was just serviced, I took it by the dealer and they said that I now need a new brake booster, and master cylinder as the brake fluid is being pushed into the vacuum system. In a matter of 2 weeks I have needed 3-4 thousand dollars worth of work. The compressor happened to be covered by an extended warranty, and the chain covered by powertrain. Unfortunately the other work is not covered. At the rate this car is going I will be broke in another month. I think it is safe to say I won't get another Chevy. (I have about 80,000 miles)
