Bought a 2010 Equinox that now has 52,000 miles on it; it has never been in an accident. On either side of the back tailgate chrome trim (Chevy emblem on it), the trim has dug into the paint causing the paint to chip and rust spots to form. Since it is past the 3 year warranty, GM will not cover it, however they rely on the local dealer's body shop for the assessment. This is obviously a defect, not caused by wear & tear or an accident (a 2010 shouldn't be peeling paint and rusting). The dealer said that i could get it repaired for $300.00 (GM warranty rate is $714.83; GM participation $414.83).
Does anyone else have an Equinox with the same problem?
It is frustrating that GM does not stand behind this product. What is also unbelievable is that the dealership has offered up twice their program to trade in my vehicle. Now why would I trade-in my Equinox for another GM vehicle when they don't stand behind fixing this "defect" on my car? I do not understand the logic.

yeah I am having the same issue with my 2012 Chevrolet Equinox LT. I visited the dealer and basically was told im S.O.L. and the service manager told me its not there problem. I purchased vehicle through them at the Three Way Chevrolet dealership in Bakersfield, CA. Don't know if anybody else is having this issue or what could be causing it but my vehicle has never been rear ended or in an accident.
