Have a 2006 Equinox. The emergency brake handle goes up too far. How to adjust?

 

Usually, the park brake doesn't ever need to be adjusted.

The 2005-2006 Equinox still has traditional rear drum brakes unlike the 2007+ Equinox which use rear disc brakes and an integrated park brake shoe/drum setup. None of the information in this thread is applicable to 2005-2006 models. Pull the drums off, check the shoes, and make sure they are properly adjusted. If you've never had the rear brakes serviced, the shoes and drums probably need to be replaced. I'd also replace all the hardware, but sometimes the old parts are reusable.
