2011, LT1, AWD, 4 Cyl Road Trip
About 350 miles round trip through the mountains of Southern Oregon on Interstate 5. This area is known for some of the steepest grades for interstate routes on the West Coast. A few observations:
1) Speed ranged from 68 on cruise in the mountains to about 75 MPH on the brief strait stretches. Still breaking in.
2) The Nox didn't downshift on mild grades, yet still held 68 on cruise. I was surprised by this.
3) On steeper grades, the Nox did downshift but still held 68 MPH on cruise. The engine seems to rev willingly to the higher RPMs and shift is so smooth, you really didn't even notice it.
4) The Michelin tires really are superb.
5) XM radio is awesome. Only had a couple brief interruptions of service. My cell reception was also decent. Folks, this includes about a 75 mile stretch of rural mountains which doesn't really get traditional radio or cell reception.
7) The handling is refined and much better than expected. I held 68 MPH easily through turns with 50 MPH limits.
8) Average Mileage was 24.8 MPG. Average speed about 66 MPH. Not bad - remember these are mountains! On the instantaneous mileage readout, I was able to obtain 28 MPG at 65 MPH on some straight stretches.
Overall, I was once again thrilled with the 4 cyl Nox. Coming from a Honda Accord, I still can't believe I'm driving a Chevy!
