Check Engine Light in 2019 Equinox LS - 55K miles
In general, for GM vehicles, if it's a SOLID check engine light, it is less serious, and just means you need to get it checked SOON. Examples of this are things like O2 sensors. If the check engine light is FLASHING, it is serious, and you should stop driving the car.
You can confirm this in your car's manual.

Either take it to an auto parts store like Advance Auto Parts, O'Reilly or Autozone and have them scan it. They'll be able to tell you why the light came on.
Better yet, buy yourself a good scan tool like the BlueDriver and scan it yourself with your phone.

DO NOT go to an auto parts store. They exist to sell you parts not diagnose problems. Trouble codes are not parts lists!! Also avoid the dealership which is fine for routine maintenance and service recalls but diagnosis, which can be time consuming, is not really a strong point in their business model. Most independent garages are well equipped to read the codes on your Chevrolet and advise you on repairs. It is what they do. Not sell parts or cars. Good luck and have it looked at sooner than later.
