I have attached relevant documents for replacing the EGR Valve for 2007-2009 Equinox 3.4L below. The "fuel injector sight shield" is the plastic engine cover that has "3400" on it. It must be removed for full access to the EGR valve. This is relatively easy, but I've attached instructions for this too.
Item one in the diagram is the EGR valve. Be careful when removing the two EGR pipe to exhaust manifold bolts (item 5). I broke one of these off when replacing my EGR valve because it was seized. Luckily, I was able to get it out without much effort. I applied some anti-seize to these bolts before reinstalling them.
