We just purchased a 2017 Equinox which has an ignition switch which uses a key as opposed to a pushbutton start. We have 12 different drivers for this vehicle. The dealer states that he can only program 8 keys for this vehicle. Is this true? Is there a way to overcome this limit? Is there a chip in the key or are we only dealing with a FOB limit?

 

It is a hard coded limitation of the vehicle's computer. There is no way around it.

 

Ruley 73, thanks for the response. It never occurred to us when we bought this car that we couldn't cut all the keys we need. I wonder who decided that 8 was the correct limit.
