I'm playing with the thought of replacing the stock air filter with a K&N one, has anyone here done this before? What do you think? I know at least one GM dealership that does it in the area, I called them about warranty, apparently it's only a problem if you over-oil your filter.

 

I have one in my 2007 Equinox, and have had them in previous vehicles as well. You can install them yourself, why did you contact a dealership??

 

I was just worried voiding my warranty, not so much the installation part. I only mentioned the dealership to indicate that GM "officially" did it too.

 

GM can not void your warranty for replacing the air filter with a unit other than theirs, as long as it meets the requirements. Moss-Magnuson Warranty Act-1975. They'd have to prove the part you installed cause whatever failure occurred. Unless they supply the maintenance parts for free, they can't force you to buy their parts in order to maintain a warranty.
