Horsepower
So i have a 2008 equinox and im trying to add horsepower and acceleration without breaking bank. Doing research over the past year i havent been able to find any kinda kit or intake, all ive found is just a k&n filter (which i already have). Does anyone know of anything i can do or anyone that makes stuff for the 2008 equinox?
Unfortunately, nobody offers much of anything for the Equinox. If you have the 3.4L V6, HPTuners offers a performance flash. This will probably cost you a few hundred bucks, you'll have to find a dealer, and you'll probably net a minimal gain of less than 10HP without any other mods. IMO this wouldn't be worthwhile. Aside from that, there isn't much else out there. I think with some work one could easily replace the factory air box with a custom cold air intake.
I don't think the K&N drop-in filters are worthwhile. Years ago my brother and I installed them in all of our vehicles (1992 Ford Ranger OHV 4.0L V6, 2001 Ford Ranger SOHC 4.0L V6, 1995 Buick Regal GS 3.8L V6; 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue DOHC 3.5L V6). In the end we both agreed that they did increase initial throttle response a touch, but there wasn't a noticeable gain in horsepower or fuel economy.
I think there may be some power to be gained in the exhaust. I'm not an expert, but the way the muffler is oriented looks really restrictive to me. Perhaps an exhaust shop could work their magic and fab something up.

I contacted spectra awhile back and they gave me the specs on how to modify the intake into a cone filter but failed to mention on how to bypass the MAFS so it was kind of a bust. But as far as the exhaust goes id have to go behind the muffler where it straightens out n add a straight pipe to a new muffler or a flowmaster. I know it can be done, its just a matter of $$$! Pretty much anything can be done with the right amount of $$$, which is something i lack!
They can't tell you how to bypass the MAF sensor because the engine management cannot correctly operate without it. With any intake the MAF sensor must remain intact and is never bypassed. In some cases a different intake requires a bigger MAF sensor which then requires a new PCM calibration for it to work correctly.
