Ignition on, continuous crank 17 2.4

Pulled motor in my 17 to repair rear main
reinstalled, had no crank. Traced the problem back to incorrect alternator connection. (Accidentally Connected fuse link and ground to alternator)
while doing some prelim testing in the no crank, father let the smoke out of the fuse block. So we replaced that.
today, I found the alt wiring mistake and fixed that. But now the issue is engine cranks non stop as soon as key is turned on and doesnt stop until key off.
Purple starter solenoid wire is energized 100% of time with key on.
did we zap something with the alternator wiring mistake or are we missing something?
