P0172 System.too rich bamk 1 help
Hi there, I jave this code for some timw now, so I decided to clear it. I bought a scanner kind of helpful but I need help with the valies and references amd also in to what ecactly to look for, I alreasy check some.things like the 02 sensors amd MAF sensors, but I need to kmow what to look more specific, I dont just want to repplace injectors or catalytics like a rich man. Please help

what engine and model year, flex fuel vehicle?
nox's with direct injection may leak fuel from the secondary injection pump into the crankcase...this causes a rich dtc. remove the oil dipstick and check for fuel smell

equinox 2014 LS 2,4 L ecotec engine.
now, I cleaned up last night the air intake system , also cleaned up the MAF sensor with the proper cleaner, i cleaned up the pcv valve (i noticed some iol in there, very little but i dont know if that was suppose tio be there, also cleaned up the throtle body with the proper cleaner. according to my scanner the readings for the maf sensor and the oxygn sensors are good and within range. so I am almost certain that the problerm is not enough o2 intake.
I inserted the scanner early on and i have a bunch of data that i need to understand, specifically that data related to fuel senspor, fuel rail, and injectors, which i read it can be the cause of the problem, it can be perhaps an injector dispensing too much fuel? how can i know idf the problem comes from the fuel pump, injector, or fuel rail???
thanks.

there is a service bulletin pip 4783 to check for fuel leakdown..if present replace the high pressure fuel injection pump and gasket then change the engine oil and reset the fuel trim.

HPFP changed already
Hi there. I changed the High pressure fuel pump, changed the oil,the oil filter, reset the codes, its been 12 days and the check engine light is on but because another DTF. I am been doing the drive cycles and already 250 miles, but the gas smell is still present on the oil dipstick, I also have now the p0420 code which I think is related, but the question is this: will the smell of gas go away after some time or something elese is going on?. Code p0172 s not present anymore.

p0420 is a catalytic convertor efficiency fault.
When you have certain dtc like a rich code....the task manager will not run certain tests....meaning the p0420 testing was withheld do the the p0172 code, Now that the p0172 has run and passed...the car runs the cat monitor and now it fails.
cat damage can result from to much fuel getting into the cats. I can't say for sure if this is what happened here as p0420 is an oxygen storing problem. this dtc can set due to bad 02 sensors or bad cats. Its difficult to give you a direction without seeing scan tool data.

Yes, so my next step is to check the 02 sensors with my acanners, but I am going to change them anyway because I am seriously thinking into take away the cat for a deep cleaning, but the gas smell on the oil is what really worry me about now.
