Default 2011 chevy express 2500. location of shift lock release

My 2500 chevy express van, 2011, gets stuck in park. someone said there is a release button or a way to over ride the lock so I can shift and go get it fixed at my mechanic. anyone have an idea? currently parked in neutral, disconnect battery as interior lights stayed on. Thanks for any help you can give. Reading up, tells me its one of the sensor switches. which I'll have to leave to my mechanic.

You said it's parked in neutral and that it's stuck in park. Which is it?

Do you consistently use the parking brake? Do you apply it before letting your foot off the brake pedal? Do you let the van roll and slam into the parking pawl? Do you live in a hilly area? Is your driveway flat? Can you hear clicking when you step on the brake pedal before you shift out of park? Do your brake lights work? Does it shift hard now that you got it out of park? After messing with it what finally got it out of park?
