Hi, I have been told that in order to remove from a 1978 G20 van a 5.7L engine and replace it with a new engine, it is necessary to lift off the whole body first. I have never heard of this before.
Thank you for your assistance. Regards Rocoe.

For starters a topic name like “how do you replace an engine “ would be more suitable.

anyway, yes that’s usually the case with vans because the engine is mostly under the cabin. Sometimes you can remove the radiator support and go out the front.
