Hi! Can anyone give me a ballpark cost on what I should expect to pay to have a water pump replaced on a 99 Chevy express 1500 with a 5.7 L engine? Phoenix area. Thanks!

The best way is to call a handful of your local shops and get an estimate.

Don't go for some cheap unit. Not on a van, as those are harder to wrench on than a pickup. Get top of the line. You won't be sorry.

It's not too bad to get to this part on a van once the fan shroud is out of the way. You'll pay anywhere from 75-125 an hour for the labor, I would imagine at least two hours, plus whatever the part costs (you can look on Rock Auto and get an idea).

I had one I thought had a bad fan clutch and those can be a bear to get off because they just spin on. That and the pulley need to be R&R to change the pump.

Shops tend to be hesitant to give estimates on this stuff because of the unknown factor, but you might be able to find the flat rate time for the job.

I love how easy it is to change out a water pump on a 265-400 SB Chevy motor. Has to be the easiest of all engines, IMO. The inline sixes are pretty easy as well.

I rented the tool and everything, tried online tricks to hold the pulley and that sucker was not coming off. So I said to heck with it and it was that way when I sold it.
