How much is your budget?
You might be able to find a G80 axle at the scrapyard you can just drop in.

G80 is the RPO code for the factory Gov-lok locking rear axle on GM trucks. If the door sticker is missing, you may need open the cover and look inside.
I would expect most of the 90's vans to be pretty gutted out by now though.

I put a Lada Torsen diff in my Fiat 124 in the spring because I use it for rallycross and now the thing rips! So I've realized the importance LSD's make for traction.

Check out the van forum chevygmcvans.com
We had a guy there put a Torsen in is Astro. He loves it. It is considerable cost though.

Detroit Truetrac is similar to a Torsen. It's an all gear limited slip. Would be great for winter but expensive. G80 doesn't do much until until after one wheel spins then it locks up. Great if you have one wheel on ice. In the 8.5" size they aren't very strong. Be sure to inspect for any cracks or damage.
