Seems to me that if you're gonna pull it out, why not just do the work to rebuild it yourself? Disassemble it and clean it up, then send the long block to your local machine shop. It could save you some bucks.

 

Hi, unless you have the proper equipment and skills to rebuild an engine, that could turn into a disaster.

 

Maybe, Tom, but if he lets a machine shop do the internals, the rest is comparatively easy. He hands off a long block, he gets it back. Install the intake, ans peripherals and slides it back in.

 

does intake manifold have anti freeze flowing though it?

like if my van is comsuming antifreeze could a faulty intake manifold gasket cause this?

 

I'd say no. But I have no specific knowledge of your motor. Most of them that I've seen do not.

 

Of course it does. I already told you that it did. The photos I posted earlier were from an intake manifold. The passages where the gasket blew out were for coolant.


Aluminum heads/intakes get hotter than you think.

OK I'll be removing the intake manie I have the new gaskets coming.

I see 2 fuel lines from the rear driver section will I need a special fuel line removal tool?

any tips on manie removal?

Hi, I hope you at least have a Haynes Manual or one of the other manuals out there. Like someone said earlier remove the drivers and passenger seat (4 bolts each), to give you room to work. The job is not that hard for a professional mechanic but could be quite trying and difficult for a DIY'er. Did you do the testing (compression and cooling system pressure checks), to confirm the problem is an intake gasket and not a head gasket? I am a carpenter, not a mechanic, but have done some tinkering, but if it was me I would take it to a local professional shop and get an estimate for the work, maybe you could afford the price, and a guarantee is nice to have. Good luck.

 

Twscarp is right. If you want to do your own work on your vehicle, I consider the manual a "must".
