My vans abs kicks in at slow speeds, like when coming to a stop, the pedal drops about an inch or two. I checked another post about it probably being the abs sensor but didn't know if there would be anything else that would need to be replaced or if i could try just cleaning the sensor?

Chances are, the signal from one of the wheel speed sensors is dropping out, simulating a wheel lock-up. You need a scan tool to monitor what and where the fault is. Consider getting it serviced by a reputable shop.

 

would a scan tool do anything if the abs light isnt on?

 

Yes, if the particular scan tool can zero in on a wheel speed sensor circuit. Some shops use a dedicated ABS tester or make do with an O-scope.
