I have a '02 3500 van with the "standard" 5.7 engine. approx 70K miles, runs fine except....
The check engine soon light comes on and off intermitantly.
I put a code reader on it and got a 0404 error code.
EGR Circut/range performance.
Can someone help me trouble shoot this thru to a solution?
I recently changed oil & filter, gas filter, air filter, trans oil and filter and spark plugs. The light was on before all the changes, went out for a while, and now is back on.
A little help would be greatly appreaciated!!

Do you have an irregular idle when the vehicle isn't moving? If so it sounds like a bad EGR valve. I would check the wires and wiring harness first if you are experiencing the rough idle at stops. Just to make sure they aren't shorted anywhere.
