My vans alternator has started to only work sometimes. Got it tested and the battery is fine but mechanic reckons i need a new alternator. I feel that if its only sometimes not charging then it is more likely just a loose/worn wire or connector or worn brushes? Any feedback would be awesome, cheers

 

I think the regulator is internal. At any rate an new one is not that expensive, so I would just bite the bullet. Or you could grab a used one from a wrecker.
