Does anyone know for sure if multiple transmissions are compatible with a 1989 G20? Van is currently broken down in Mexico and we are 500 miles south hoping to find a transmission here (La Paz) to bring back up to the van in a few weeks. There is a mechanic there that can put it in.

It has an automatic transmission, overdrive, 8 cyl engine. I vaguely remember seeing something in the paperwork saying it had the 700R4 tranny, but I can't say for sure. When I call the junk yards down here in La Paz, all they ask is the year and how many cylinders, which makes me think it doesn't really matter.

Anyone know.
