Default 1995 G20 Sportvan Help

I have a 95 G20 Sport Van. There is a short in the turn signal circuit that causes a solenoid (I think it's a solenoid. It seems to be connected via linkage to the ignition switch itself) that is mounted on the column to smoke. This short only happens when the ignition is turned on, the shifter is in park and when your foot is taken off of the brake pedal. If I hold down the brake pedal and shift out of park (Reverse, Nuetral, Drive...) the problem does not occur and the turn signals work. Can anyone help me with this? Does anyone know what this solenoid is that is mounted to the column or if it is even a solenoid at all? Please help!
