2011 express rear end help.
Have a 2011 express 6.6l with 220,000 kms. Rear end started making howling noise.
I pulled it a apart and found the bearings were gone, replaced them all and cleaned out the housing.
Test drove it and have a different noise now, a loud whining that is there regardless of throttle and most prominent at 60km/h
Sounds like gears to me, but not sure. I took it all apart and everything looks good. Pinion preload is good. For the backlash I just turned those locks back to where they were and it was in spec.
Only thing I find odd is my pinion never had any shims on it at all. Just the crush sleeve. This normal? I'm going to re check my pattern for the 3rd time tommorow, but so far I'm confused.
