I have a 2011 GMC Savana Box Truck which is an ex-Penske with 12' box and SRW (Single Rear Wheel). It's got the typical drop bumper mounted off arms that are welded to the frame...

Will a standard hitch for the same year Savana fit the frame? I understand I will have to cut a hole for the receiver to fit through the back plate.

 

That is a standard wheelbase so it looks like the back of the box is a bit past the back of the frame. I am guessing it will need to be a custom hitch that will reach far enough to the frame from that back plate.....

 

I will look under there tonight when I get home and see if the frame extends to the back of the box and if there are any mounting holes.

 

That is a weird looking truck. Usually they built them on a 159" chassis but I guess this is a smaller one. Too much of a rear overhang. You must have no cargo past the rear axle AND your tongue weight must be real low. Otherwise your front wheels will have very little weight and it'll feel like you're driving a boat. Short distances are of course okay, I just won't go with this cross-country.

In case you can't tell from the pictures the cargo area extends to the rear door, so not sure why you think there isn't cargo space back there? Sure I wouldn't load all the heavy crap at the back only, but it does fine with two motorcycles towards the rear. Unless you meant when I towing anything I would have to be careful...I agree about that - wouldn't be trying to tow anything with a huge tongue weight.

I don't have a hitch on it yet - wouldn't be loading it heavy - at the most I'd probably be using it for a motorcycle hitch carrier. I use the truck to haul my bikes in the back and converted it for travel with a roll-out queen bed to fit on the E-track verticals.

The frame runs to the back of the box.
