hi all, I had my son change out the ignition cylinder in my 89 chevy g20 cargo van with a 5.0 with 3 speed auto transmission "no over drive".. my son ended up pulling the collar of the column that actually houses the ignition cylinder and its all messed up now. trying to get the teeth the rod that goes down the column back on to the teeth of the gear that the ignition cylinder turns is a def. no go. I dont think its possible. so needless to say I have to find another column. my question is what steering column's will fit this year of van? does it have to be a column out of of another van that has the 3 speed auto like mine or can I use a column from a van that had the extra over drive marking on the idicator? can I use a steering column out of a g30? also mine is a straight column and not a tilt.

Interchange is something like 87-91 all G vans, 10, 20, 30, cutaway, motorhome, whatever. OD column should work, indicator may not line up exactly. Tilt is a direct interchange, if you find one first. The primary things are that it has the short intermediate shaft (no sleeve over it) and isn't set up for a cable shifter mechanism.
If you want to still try to keep your current key. once the turn signal switch is pulled out of the way one bolt holds the cylinder in place. Should be no reason to take anything else apart.
