96 G20 tranny problems, possible engine swap
I hope someone could help me out.
1996 Chevy G20 cargo van. v8 5.0 with 4L60e. Tranny kept acting up by not engaging into 3rd gear, the engine just reved untill the tranny cought 4th gear. I drove the car for couple of hundreds of miles but it kept getting worse so I had the tranny fluids changed. That didn't help the situation and actually made it worse. Now the tranny won't go past 2nd gear. Is there anything that will save the tranny now? I have seen rebuilt kits sold on ebay. Have anyone had similar experience and was anyone able to repair the tranny with a rebuilt kit?
Another question is that I have a 5.3 Vortec with 4L60e tranny from a 2003 Express van. I wanted to take just the tranny and put it into my 96 van. Dealer told me (based on VIN numbers) that these are same transmissions and can be swapped. Junkyard told me that 96 van will only take 96 transmission. Are these two transmissions swapable?
I am also considering putting 5.3 Vortect with tranny into my 96 5.0 van since it has 120k miles on it already but was told by some mechanic that it can not be done because engines are different because of different displacements. I read somewhere online (automotiveforums) that it can be done. Now, I am sure it can be done but will all the electrical wirings and plugs fit and are engine mounts the same?
I would really need some help on these questions.
Thanks
Edit. I am looking at trannys on Ebay and it seems that 4L60E will fit 95-97 4.3, 5.0, 5.7 and bigger. So perhaps taking the tranny from 2003 5.3 won't work with my 96 G20 van. The question that still bugs me. What if I changed Engine and Tranny and put 5.3 into my 96 van?

I am sorry if my post is difficult to understand, english is my second laungage, not first.
Please, I need to know from an expert if a V8 from 2003 van will fit into 96 van.

Well, nobody to help me out. What went wrong? I know it's not the wrong forum. Anyways, I am having transmission shop put a rebuilt tranny for $1600 plus tax (labor and tranny) and they keep the old tranny.
