Default 99 express passenger side rear door won't close

Door was working fine, now it isn't. It will close most of the way, then it seems to bind on something. It's not closing far enough for it to be the latch. Did the door get hyper extended and do something to the hinges? Comparing it to the driver's side, the door seems pushed towards the front. Tried putting a shim in the hinge for clearance - now it will close on the hinge side, but stands proud on the latch side, so that didn't help. What to try next??

Welcome from Florida. Check the track on the side of the van for something in there stopping the door from closing completely.

Thanks, oldchevy, for your reply. But, this is the rear door on the passenger (right) side not the side door. Yes, it acts like there's something stuck in the way and not letting it close, but I can't see what it might be.
The plastic panel on the side of the door between the metal door and the metal side of the van is scraping and has broken two of the attachment screws after trying to close the door. Comparing the right and left doors, there is less clearance there than on the left door. It looks like something hit the bumper. Did that bend the hinge? There does not seem to be any slop when moving door up and down, so does that mean the hinge pin in ok?

Is there side to side play in the door? If there is you could have worn hinge bushings as well as worn hinge pins. The hinge itself is thick and hard to bend, but the metal it is mounted to could bend a little bit.

Did not seem to have any slop in the hinge, maybe the metal on the door bent a little?
Anyway, shimmed both the top and bottom hinges and now the door will close and latch. Fixed for now, but shur would like to know what actually caused the problem.
