Default Awd express mpg vs rwd

Wondering if the awd gets much less mpg? Like 4x4s do? One reason I want an express is the great mileage.

I've got two, 2006 and 2014.

2006 express, factory passenger seats, nothing special, 16 mpg.
2014 express, waldoch conversion, 14-15 mpg.

the MPG doesn't seem to change much even with towing a little 3000 pound trailer ( i stay away from towing anything greater than 4K with the 1500 AWD).

Trying to push it through mountains or above 75 really affect it, have learned to drive it like it what it is, a "bread loaf", so just enjoy the ride and go a ltitle slower.

I love the AWD, and the combination of weight, have powered through snow, mud and passed other vehicles who were spinning.

I used to worry about the MPG, but the ability to haul stuff, just can't compare, i have chevy diesel equinox and it does great in the MPG, but your not going to want to take a long trip in it, when i load up the vans, I'm ready for anything....when i was looking at the 2014 waldoch conversion, i missed out on an AWD camper van made by pleasure way with a pop top and complete camper setup, i've made my 2006 into a stealth camper (but no pop top).

The AWD Ford transit vans are equally nice, though i'll miss the doors on the driver side (and of course $$ wise), I was fortunate too grab the last production year of the AWD i think; the ford transit van you can get with AWD and bigger engine, so you can tow more than you can with the 1500 AWD (though i have seen customized chevy van 2500 AWD in vegas on a trip)..

Dave in Kansas City.

Driver side 60/40 doors was an option from 2003-2008 and available on all cargo models (RWD and AWD). Also if you're new to the Chevy express, they were available in light duty (1500) and heavier duty (2500 and 3500) models. The 1500 was discontinued in 2014. AWD was only available on the 1500 model in the last few years.

@Uncle Rico
Incorrect. AWD was available on the 1500 from 2003 to 2014.

Fuel economy depends on what engine and transmission you want. There are a few options for 2WD.
You can look up fuel economy numbers for any vehicle yourself on fueleconomy.gov
My 2013 5.3L AWD gets about 19 LPH (12 mpg) mixed.
Anytime you're pushing an AWD drivetrain there are going to be noticeable losses, obviously.

I have no idea where you got the idea that these vans get "great mileage". Compared to what? A tank?
