Question best glue to reattach rearview mirror ?

our family has owned Chevys since 1952. Today, for the 1st time for any chevy, , my OEM rearview mirror fell off its OEM position on the inside of the front windshield. ( it was a warm 75 degree day and the internal temp of my 3500 express 07 had reached 92 degrees measured on my auxiliary cheap manual thermometer located away from the windshield. . 92 certainly isn't unusually hot compared to Florida or death valley, etc .

various glues claim to bond metal or plastic to glass. the foot of the chevy mirror where it attaches on the upper windshield has a small metal plate . the mirror fell almost onto the dash, and was restrained by its wiring harness. left on the windshield glass was still a small piece of some transparent plastic, maybe the original glue pad between metal plate and windshield ? . the bond has failed between metal plate and this flexible plastic piece which easily peeled off the windshield . this plastic was between the metal foot of the mirror and the glass windshield.

for attaching the metal foot of the mirror to the windshield
the best product per amazon is gorilla 'super glue gel . ' It claims to require no clamping , does do vertical attachments, is not runny, and promises a 45 second (yes, second) setting time for permanent bond. it claims to bond metal to glass. . .

does anyone see a problem in re attaching this mirror's metal base plate direct to the windshield glass with gorilla'superglue gel' ? if so, how many inches down from the top of the windshield should it attach ?

my family readjusts mirrors a lot but we never had one completely fall off.

thanks as usual for your thoughts. . .. .

there are products specifically for what you're trying to do

Yes, you want the kit with a thin piece of plastic similar to the factory deal.

Thanks , I wondered what that thin piece of plastic was that fell off with the mirror.

I followed Joe's advice and got the Permatex Windshield repair kit. To use it, you detach the mirror wire from the mirror by pressing the clip. then remove the phillips black screw on front of the mirror base with a Torx 20 to detach the metal mounting pad from the mirror base. With the Permatex kit, you clean the windshield and metal base following their instructions using their cleaner. apply activator on . then put a drop of glue onto the metal base, press base in place on the windshield and hold base in place for at least minute. you mount the mirror onto the metal base after letting the glue dry at least 3 hours.

Thanks, Joe ! It worked faultlessly. cost me $7.

I also contacted Gentex who made the OEM 3500 express mirror in my 07 for advice. Gentex said new Gentex mirrors come with a 'mounting pad' because some mirror attachment glues can break the windshield if you attach the mirror base direct to the glass. mounting pads are about 3 for 6$ if you go that route.
