Default charging issue

When I start my van it charges at somewhere over 14 volts but then drops down to somewhere near battery voltage while I'm driving. If I pull over and shut it off and then start it again it does the same thing. Should'nt it always charge at 14 plus volts all the time? This is a 2017 3500 express 16 ft box van with 6.0

Alternator will only charge to the load plus battery. If you have basically just ignition, no lights, radio ect. and the battery has recharged since the last start cycle, you won't see it charge as the battery is at the same charge as the rest of the electrical.

It's normal. The system is preventing overcharging of the battery. It's constantly monitoring all electrical loads, and providing only what you need. It should prolong the life of your battery, and give you a little HP boost to boot.

Google GM Smart charge for more details.
