Default Doors have to be slammed

Hey again. First time owning a van like this so I'm not sure if this is normal, but my family and I have found that we really have to slam the doors on on our 2016 express much harder than on our previous cars (sedans and minivans) for them to close properly. The kids struggle closing the side door and I often have to get out to shut it for them, but the slamming seems necessary for all of the doors... the rear door, as well as both the driver and passenger doors. If I close them with what I consider to be a "normal" amount of force, they latch but don't close all the way.

Is this normal for these vans? I understand that the doors are quite a bit larger and heavier than our previous vehicles and that these vans aren't really known for precision assembly. But perhaps it is possible there is something wrong. If so what could it be? The hinges seem to work smoothly.

I grew up with an old Ford Econoline. Those doors had to be shut hard (at least for a little kid). A buddy got a Isuzu that had doors there were maybe 5lbs for all 4 and he'd yell at me all the time for slamming them. That said I found my sliding door to need more force than I thought necessary. I tweaked all the latches and pull rods after replacing the broken handle and my wife commented that it was much easier to shut and open.

I have a 2024 Savana passenger van and have to slam the doors in order to close them all the way, pretty much exactly the way you described. I’m kind of surprised how much wind noise there is from around the door seals and I suspect that GM tried to seal those big doors better by using higher density foam seals. The foam is harder to compress, so it takes more force to close the doors, hence the slamming. Mine was worse when it was new, but when it’s cold it is still harder to close. Those seals get hard at below freezing temperatures.

I recently bought a 2018 Savana 2500 Cargo and that was the first thing I noticed. Have to really slam the doors and sometimes have to do it twice. I also have a 2000 1500 Passenger and a 2005 1500 Cargo and neither of them are like that.

I do have some wind noise from the 2018 doors and I suspect that someone before me was trying to reduce it by adjusting the door latches tighter / moved them in.

Although the 2018 and the 2005 both have a 4.3 - the 2018 is twice the truck that my 2005 is. Quicker, faster, will more easily tow more. Nonetheless; I am coming to Hate the 2018. Damn thing rides like a coal cart - like knock your teeth loose hard) and it is really Noisy inside - too loud to talk to someone in the passenger seat noisy. <g> Even running 45 lbs in the tires all around (the rears call for 80) does little to improve it. I'm tempted to try a set of Michelin LTX's but I hate the idea of spending another $1200. on this thing and still hating it. <g>

I had really bad wind noise too, and then I noticed some of the rubber seal around the driver door wasn't pushed all the way into place. I pushed it to where it belongs and the wind noise went away. It's no Lexus but I can actually have conversation now, or hear the radio without having to crank the volume so much. I may use some weatherstrip adhesive to hold it in place better.

As for the ride - mine is stiff too. Up front it's rough but tolerable, but the further back you go the rougher it gets. I figure that's just par for the course for a 3500 with stiff leaf springs.

Yes, the ride is pretty brutal. I bought a tpms simulator on eBay. It lies to the tpms receiver about the tire pressure to keep the warning notice and light off. I run 50 front and 55 rear and it helps *slightly*.
As for the interior noise level, it’s pretty shameful how GM produces a passenger vehicle that is almost completely lacking any sound deadening material inside or out. They excuse this by calling it a “commercial” vehicle for sales purposes.
I have kind of a love/hate relationship with my Savana. I love the powertrain, the simplicity and the room, but hate the lack of care GM shows for the comfort/convenience of driver and passengers.
